Hi guys, Naomi Findlay here.
Did you know I have a renovation course? You can check it out here!
Now, despite how much I love agaves, they are often called weeds here in Australia. And I can see why… The rate in which they multiple is a little crazy!
When agaves are young they are gorgeous and stay in their spot, however as they age they can grow incredibly large and start taking up a lot more space.
Now I definitely do not want to get rid of beautiful plants like this when they start blocking the pathways, so I have brought in an expert in all things gardens, Aaron from Green Envy!
KEY points:
- Agaves are an incredibly forgiving plant and very easy to transplant.
- To move an agave use a timber saw to cut the thick stem. You can then plant this elsewhere and it will grow again.
- The base of the agave that was left behind will also keep growing! New pups will begin sprouting from here.
- Long term care for agaves: strip off lower leaves to prevent rot problems for the plant.
- Short term care for agaves: you can cut off the damaged ends of agaves leaves for aesthetic purposes.
