Let’s talk all about trends in doors!

Are you wondering what doors are on trend right now?

Well say no more. Today we are joined by Mark from Hume Doors who has 15 years of experience in the doors industry, as he discusses the recent changes in trends.

Nowadays, we’re at home more and we haven’t been travelling overseas lately.

So now, people are starting to put more effort into their homes. This means that more and more people starting to upgrade their doors. Why? Well, they’re noticing how certain doors can help achieve that next-level finish on their renovation.

With this in mind, we will share the latest trends to help you upgrade your doors!

Keep reading as we share the recent trends in doors. If you prefer to listen to the full podcast, simply click below.

TRENDS IN DOORS #1: SIMPLICITY

In the last 18 months, there has been a return to simplicity and elegance.

Specifically, 50% of Hume Door’s clients prefer the doors that have clean lines and basic designs. These doors are simple, light and bright.

TRENDS IN DOORS #2: HAMPTONS STYLE AND PROFILED DOORS

In the last three years, there has been a shift to a coastal, farmhouse, and Hamptons styled doors. This where the other 50% of Hume Door’s clients are heading.

Specifically, with this style, people are starting to want larger skirtings, front doors with mouldings and wainscoting inside the house.

Recently, people are also starting to want profiling in their doors. They want designs that are interesting to look at, beyond plain doors.

Profiled doors are associated with traditional comfort rather than the edgy modern trends we’ve been seeing for many years.

If you want to check out all the profiled doors from Hume Doors I used in renovating Carrington House, go to naomifindlay.com/carringtonhouse to download the spreadsheet of the codes and colours for the doors.

Hume Doors has noticed that doors in their range that were popular 20 years ago are coming back today. However, they now have clear and frosted plain glass, standard, but with mouldings.

But by painting them with a colour like pastel blue, you can bring one of the older doors back to life. This will make the doors look refreshed and modern. It’s a touch on an older style that matches the rest of your house’s style.

Whereas people used to focus only on their front doors, clients are now more open to considering the doors throughout their home. A broad range of internal doors is now being sold at a more affordable price.

Also, nowadays, there has been a shift to barn doors and shaker profile doors in the Hampton range.

MARK’S PREDICTION OF FUTURE TRENDS IN DOORS

1. HAMPTONS STYLE

The Hamptons phase has ramped up in popularity as they have been featured in renovation shows. There is a good chance that they will be around for years to come.

That’s why Hume Doors have brought out the Haven range, which are traditional doors with glass panels that let in natural lighting. People want as much natural light in their house as possible.

2. FULL TRADITIONAL DOOR WITH MOULDINGS

There is less and less market for flush doors nowadays, with more people gravitating towards full traditional doors with mouldings. Why?

Well for starters, people are at home nowadays so they are putting more effort into the appearance of their houses. Not only that, but also, people are now more aware that products are affordable and can help provide a great return on investment.

A special custom-made front door won’t cost you ten grand, so customisation is absolutely attainable. In fact, Hume doors can produce doors for a lower price.

This means that your doors can look amazing AND can be affordable!

Due to the level of technology and social media we have nowadays, it is possible to cater for different styles at an affordable price. Within reasonable limits, most things are possible.
